Evening Primrose Oil contains a substance called Gamma Linolenic Acid. This is an essential fatty acid which the body converts to protaglandins - these are hormone like substances which control many of the body’s functions. In particular they help to regulate the menstrual cycle and hormone regulation, lower high blood pressure and reduce cholesterol levels, they improve the condition of the skin making it smooth and help form a barrier against the loss of moisture. Essential Fatty Acids also assist in reducing inflammation and improve mobility in the joints, and are involved in many other physiological processes. Many people have inadequate levels of Essential Fatty Acids, due to food processing, glucose intolerance and ageing.
